MESSAGE FROM THE FIRE CHIEF

Welcome to the Weyburn Fire Department’s Home Page.  The Weyburn Fire Department is a composite fire department with both career and paid-on-call firefighters. We serve the City of Weyburn as well as a large rural area and have mutual aid agreements with 7 surrounding fire departments to assist each other at major incidents.

Over the past ten years, we have changed our focus from one of putting out fires to that of preventing fires.  We have become very pro-active in our fire prevention activities with regular visits to all schools, pre-schools and seniors centers.  The Learn-Not-To-Burn® Curriculum is in use in all elementary schools and pre-schools in the City and is supported by our firefighter visits.  Our "Adopt-a-School" program has each career firefighter working exclusively with one of the elementary schools providing support to the teachers in class and during special events at the schools.

We operate out of a new, state of the art fire hall which was occupied on September 15, 1999.  We serve the community with one Quint with a 15m Telesquirt, two pumpers, one rescue truck, two utility vehicles, two command vehicles and a hazardous materials trailer.  We average about 100 calls each year and about 60% of these are actual fires.  The balance includes Carbon Monoxide alarms, false alarms and rescue calls.  We also assist local EMS as needed.

Training is accomplished through local instruction by certified instructors, college programs offered by the fire colleges and some training is certified to International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) standards.  Experts are brought in for specialized training courses and we operate on a train the trainer concept where we make most training available in house.

Career opportunities in the Weyburn Fire Department are few but we hire new members who are trained and IFSAC Certified.  Paid-on-call opportunities are also limited as we have a low turnover of personnel; however, a simple application to the Department is all that is required to get on the waiting list.

Enjoy touring our site and feel free to contact us for further information.
